After a passionless marriage under the scrutiny of high society, Avery Stowe is taking back her life. All she wants is a little privacy and a quiet place to raise her autistic daughter, Hailey. Redwood Ridge, Oregon, seems to offer all the right ingredients. Except for the problem of the local sexy veterinarian. The last thing she needs in her life is to fall for his irresistible allure, even if he is a nice guy who keeps doing her favors. But the well-meaning patrons of her new hometown have other ideas, and it appears playing Cupid is one of them.
Cade O’Grady has never met a woman he couldn’t handle, but when Avery Stowe walks into his office late one night cradling an injured puppy, he’s struck stupid. Which might explain her total lack of interest in him. But now that she’s working for his family’s clinic, he doesn’t have to lust from a distance. He might just have a chance at convincing Avery—and her too-guarded heart—that falling for the right man isn’t a mistake . . .
“The chemistry is sizzling in this series opener.” —Library Journal
♦ Personal Thought ♦
I’m glad I went ahead picking this title to read. The start of the new Redwood Ridge series was exactly what I need to buoy up my spirit!
Small town, hunk of a vet (make that three), lots of pets (obviously), nosy and meddling aunts and mothers, an autistic but adorable little girl. My heart went pitter patter! To liven the story were the clinic animals: a parrot called Gossip, a timid Great Dane named Thor and his tormentor, She-rah the evil cat. There’s plenty entertainment to have in this book!
The characters in the stories were likeable, both main and supporting. Cade had me swoon on early pages already with his forthrightness in apologizing when he realized his mistake. There’s more swoon-worthy attributes this guy had, but I’ll let readers found them themselves. 😉 And then there’s Avery, single mom to a nonverbal autistic daughter after her divorced. Her endeavor to new life in new town with friendly people; it’s heart-wrenching and sweet to follow.
Not only that, the supporting characters in the story were no less amusing! While I figured the other O’Grady brothers would have their own story to be told on the next books, I wouldn’t mind to read side story of Brent, the Vet tech! (Hint, to the author! *winks*)
As a first timer to Kelly Moran‘s works, I find her writing enjoyable to read. I do hope to continue reading her books and surely can’t wait for the next installment of the series!
