synopsis

“Scones, a tea shop in England, a kitty & a murder–yes, please!”

Gemma ditches her high-flying job and returns to Oxford to follow her dream: opening a traditional English tearoom serving warm buttery scones with jam and clotted cream, and fragrant tea in pretty bone china… Only problem is–murder is the first thing on the menu and Gemma is the key suspect! And the only people Gemma can turn to for help are four nosy old ladies from her local Cotswolds village – not to mention a cheeky little tabby cat named Muesli.

Who was the mysterious woman Gemma met on the flight back from Australia and why was she murdered? Now Gemma must find the killer, solve the mystery and clear her name if she’s to have her cake–and serve it too.

♦ Personal Thought ♦

A lively, laugh-induced romp of cozy mystery set in Oxford that was fun to read. It’s my first time of H.Y. Hanna read and her writing just clicked with me. This novella is the prequel to “Oxford Tearoom Mysteries” which told the beginning of how Gemma Rose went back home to England and open her Tearoom and encountered her first ever murder mystery.

I was not too dazzled by Gemma’s not-so-quick thinking (although being jetlag certainly could be a nice excuse) but I loved the humorous tone of the story. Of course, the British aspect of the story held another appeal to me; you know: tea and the assortments of cakes, the old biddies … Oh, not to forget Muesli, the tabby cat. These all combined to be a promising series that I certainly would look forward to enjoy.
